I had to take the day off of work today so i could attend the Memorial Service of a close friends father In Kentucky. I spent most of the day with him since I dont see him often (He is stationed in England). After i returned from kentucky I realized that i had about an hour of daylight left< so I decided to spend that hour doing what i Love to do...Bass Fishing! We have been having some pretty cold weather (By Tn Standards atleast) for the last couple of weeks, and today was no different. It was cold, windy, and we were Getting a mix of cold rain and sleet. I havent had a chance to fish in the sleet this winter, so that was all the excuse i needed to head down to one of my favorite local ponds!
with only an hour of daylight left i needed to fish baits that I felt confident would draw bites quickly, so i loaded one rod with a tube bait rigged texas, and another rod with a jig/plastic trailor combo and got to work! I got a light hit on the tube almost immediately, but no commitment. so i slowed it down a bit. within minutes i had my first fish "in hand". A nice little 1 Lb'er. i continued to work my way around the pond and fish the tube bait at the same speed that got me the first fish, and soon i caught a 1.5 Lb largemouth in the same fashion. They both had more "fight" to them than i expected under these harsh conditions, but nowhere near a match for the baitcasting combo they were up against. I had one more bass commit to the tube, but i overplayed him and he threw the hook before i could get him to bank up for me. i would guess him to be in the same size range as the other 2. i dont guess 2 fish per hour is exactly a great day on the water, but its not bad for a cold, windy day with sleet and rain. Its always a good day of fishing if you are catching bass! i was glad I got to get out and fish these conditions, it was a confidence builder...And quite fun i might add!!!! Good Luck to all my fellow addicts who are gonna be on the water this week!
