great post... just thinking about it quickly, i always also used to keep a rod in my car... i am a bass guy though, so i would also have a backpack with my gear (easier to carry around), a set box of GO TO lures, hooks, and sunglasses. For crappy/bluegill, do you use lures or bait like bread etc? I think you could get away with the small backpack i use to if its not too cumbersome for your storage space

I think for this situation for one part i agree with Joe, a back pack- even a small one, makes a great taclke box carrying primarily "go to" lures. but to add to it id suggest a couple things. One of my favorite things when prime bass or catfish season isnt on is to carry a ultralight outfit, that an extremely fun way to catch fish. its small, some can be very compacted to maybe even fit in the backpack and all the UL tackle is small and light also. On UL gear small fish seem big making big fish extremely fun. my other suggestion would be to take up fly fishing for the same reason. The fly rods are usually 8-9 ft long but they make em in multi peice sets, even top of the line Orvis has a traveler rod that breaks down real small. All the tackle for fly fishing is almost weightless. I can carry 4 boxes full of flies that weighs less than one box of my bass crankbaits. Now fly fishing does require learning the skill a bit but is some of the most fun youll ever have fishing. its so worth it. hope theres some help here
